Coral Street Art Space - Tumbi Tjil-urmi Titi (Living Arts Centre)
The Coral Street Art Space, established in 2019, is Victor Harbor’s vibrant home for art and culture. Created in response to the community’s vision for a multi-purpose venue, the space welcomes all art forms and serves as a dynamic hub for creativity, learning, and connection.
A cornerstone of the space is its deep respect for Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri cultural practices. From its inception, the City of Victor Harbor worked closely with representatives from MIPAAC (Miwi-inyeri Pelepi-ambi Aboriginal Corporation) and local Elders to ensure First Nations voices and traditions are central to the space’s identity. The name Tumbi Tjil-urmi Titi (Living Arts Centre) was gifted by the local Ngarrindjeri language group, with confirmation from linguist Mary-Anne Gale that it honors both Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri heritage.
Today, Coral Street Art Space offers:
Rotating exhibitions showcasing local, regional, and First Nations artists
Live performances and cultural events
Creative workshops for all ages and abilities, including artist-led sessions and community collaborations
A retail gallery supporting artists through the sale of unique artworks and handmade goods
Artist residencies and professional development opportunities
Community engagement programs that foster inclusion, learning, and cultural exchange
As part of City of Victor Harbor’s broader Arts and Culture Precinct vision, the Coral Street Art Space is committed to nurturing creativity, celebrating diversity, and strengthening cultural tourism in the region. It is a place where stories are shared, traditions are honored, and new ideas come to life - inviting everyone to play their part in the living arts of Victor Harbor.
The Space
The Coral Street Art Space is housed in a beautifully preserved, state heritage-listed building at 10 Coral Street, Victor Harbor. Originally opened in 1878 as ‘The Institute,’ the building has long served as a cornerstone of community life. In 1935, it was taken over by the Town Council and operated as the local library for over 80 years, fostering learning and connection for generations. More recently, the building was home to the RSL Victor Harbor branch until 2019.
Today, the Coral Street Art Space continues this legacy of community service and creativity. The venue features flexible exhibition spaces that showcase a diverse range of visual art, from local and First Nations artists to touring exhibitions. A dedicated retail gallery supports artists by offering unique artworks and handmade goods for sale. The space also includes a welcoming workshop area, where artists and community members can participate in creative workshops, professional development sessions, and collaborative projects.
With its rich history and vibrant present, the Coral Street Art Space is a dynamic hub for art, culture, and community in Victor Harbor.
